This is one of the most historically significant expressions in the entire history of independent bottling. In the 1970s and 1980s, Gordon & MacPhail held exclusive "licensed bottler" status for several distilleries that lacked the corporate infrastructure to bottle their own single malts. This specific release—distilled in 1938 and bottled in 1982—is globally revered. It bears G&M's iconic, retro distillery-specific label layout featuring the script designation "A Pure Highland Malt"

It opens with rich waves of beeswax, old dunnage warehouse dust, and polished mahogany wood. This is followed by a cascade of overripe tropical fruits—dried mango, papaya, and caramelized orange peel—mingled with tobacco leaf, leather, and a faint hint of peppermint.

It leaves behind a lingering signature of dried mint, old wood spices (cinnamon and clove), a touch of cocoa, and a beautiful, waxy coating on the palate.
