Released in 1988 under Pepi Mongiardino’s legendary "The Sea" series, this bottle captures liquid from the remote Orkney Islands from a bygone distillation era. Vintage independent expressions of Scapa are incredibly difficult to find because the vast majority of its historic production was guarded heavily to serve as the structural heart of the Ballantine’s blended Scotch empire.

It opens with an initial burst of beach sand, sea brine, and wet wool. As it breathes, it sweetens up elegantly, yielding notes of soft beeswax, old library books, honeyed lemons, and underripe stone fruits.
