Oban is one of the smallest distilleries in Diageo’s portfolio, operating only two small pot stills crammed into a tight physical footprint in the center of the town of Oban. Historically, almost its entire output was locked away for standard blending. Finding an independent bottling of Oban is exceptionally rare, and finding a 1961 vintage bottled under Gordon & MacPhail's iconic "Old Brown Label" format is considered an absolute pinnacle achievement for vintage Scotch collectors.

It opens with an immediate hit of old library floor wax, saltwater crust, and canvas sails. This slowly gives way to oxidized peach syrup, dried apricots, chamomile, and a very distinct, old-school dunnage smoke that is faint and earthy.

It leaves a trailing, dry footprint of European oak spice, coastal salinity, and a lingering, sweet wax coating.
