MORTLACH - SINGLE MALT - IB - GORDON & MACPHAIL (G&M) "RARE OLD HIGHLAND MALT 1936

G&M’s use of custom animal and heraldic illustrations—such as the majestic Golden Eagle perched proudly on a branch or crag—was reserved for their most prestigious, ultra-premium parcels during the mid-to-late 20th century.

It opens with notes of ancient polished mahogany, beeswax candles, old book leather, and heavy rancio. This is followed by black molasses, dried figs, dates, and a distinct thread of damp, earthy warehouse loam. 

It leaves behind a lingering echo of old cigar tobacco, charred oak, and a faint, rustic hint of earthy peat smoke from old-school floor malting.
