The Speyburn 1967 (Bottled 1988) "The Sea" Series (Cask #1198) by Moon Import is an extraordinary, museum-grade independent bottling. In the world of vintage scotch, this specific bottle represents a legendary collision between one of Italy's greatest independent curators, Pepi Mongiardino, and a legendary, highly acclaimed expression of 1960s Speyside distillate.
It opens with deep notes of old paraffin lamps, beeswax, and antique polished oak. This is balanced by candied orange peel, dried apricots, chamomile tea, and a subtle farmy, warehouse-musk complexity that has completely vanished from modern single malts.
The rich fruit and honey notes slowly fade into a wonderfully drying, elegant oak and herbal tea finish.
