AINSLIE'S BLENDED "SPECIALLY SELECTED VERY OLD SCOTCH WHISKY" SECURO 1960S (BRORA)

Ainslie & Heilbron (Distillers) Ltd can trace their history back to a 19th-century wine and spirits merchant. Crucially, the company was so successful that in 1896, they bought the original Clynelish Distillery in Brora, Sutherland. Even after the company was absorbed into the corporate giant DCL (the precursor to Diageo) in the mid-20th century, Ainslie's retained proprietary access to the distillery's warehouses.

It opens with distinct notes of industrial shoe polish, paraffin wax, and old furniture wax. As it catches air, it reveals a gorgeous sweet layer of heather honey, orange marmalade, graham crackers, and a faint, highly elegant whiff of lemony farmyard peat smoke.
