Diageo releases an exclusive Distillers Edition once a year for its core Classic Malts distilleries. While the legendary flagship Lagavulin 16-Year-Old is matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and traditional sherry oak, the Distillers Edition takes the standard template and gives it a highly specialized secondary maturation (finishing process) in heavily charred, ultra-sweet wine casks.

It gives maritime peat smoke and burning heather are beautifully checked by a massive wave of dark raisin sweetness, vanilla pods, and sticky Medjool dates. There is a crisp, roasty malt backbone underneath.

It leaves a heavy, lingering footprint of sweet peat ash, rich cocoa powder, roasted walnuts, and drying European oak tannins.
