The Highland Park 40 Year Old (2008 Release) is a legendary milestone for the Orkney-based distillery. Launched in 2008 as a permanent (though highly limited) pinnacle of their core range, this specific debut batch quickly achieved legendary status, winning "Best New Release" at the World Whiskies Awards in 2009.

Initial notes of old dunnage warehouse, polished oak, beeswax, and worn leather are closely followed by dark chocolate, dried black cherries, orange marmalade, and a delicate, salty maritime breeze wrapped in soft, aromatic heather smoke.

The drying oak tannins are perfectly kept in check by lingering citrus oils, dark chocolate bitter-sweetness, and sweet, wispy peat ash.
