JURA - SINGLE MALT - OB - 1980S 10YO LONGITUDINAL LABEL (ISLAND MAP LOGO)
Whiskies from the Isle of Jura during the 1980s represent a defining era of structural transition. Following Invergordon Distillers taking over the management reins in 1985, Jura began stepping away from the ambiguous legal classification of "Pure Malt" and explicitly labeled their stock as "Single Malt Scotch Whisky" to establish modern premium transparency. This specific bottling style, featuring a tall, vertical longitudinal label framing a stylized illustration/map of the island of Jura, captures that exact moment in time.
It opens with notes of dusty old library books, dry hay, cardboard, and candle wax. As it breaks open in the glass, a soft sweetness emerges—light heather honey, orange marmalade, vanilla custard, and dried banana chips. It trails off with a faint trail of cereal sweetness, dry grass, and light cooking spices.
