During the 1970s and 1980s, the Italian market was the global epicenter for single malt appreciation. Meregalli (Monza, Italy)—one of the most prestigious luxury wine and spirits distributors in Europe—partnered with Gordon & MacPhail to import highly exclusive, single-cask parcels specifically tailored to the sophisticated Italian palate.
The "Celtic Label" (featuring intricate, historical Celtic knotwork and styling) was reserved by G&M for their finest, most premium old vintages.
It opens with sharp notes of medicinal iodine, old bandages, wet beach pebbles, and diesel fuel, which beautifully soften into lemon oil, pure beeswax, smoked kippers, and dry dunnage warehouse peat smoke.
It leaves behind a persistent trail of coal tar, old leather, and a clean, chalky minerality.
